Brian Kerns serves as a senior advisor for Sperry Van Ness, LLC, specializing in the sale of land, retail and multifamily property throughout the greater Chicago, Illinois area. With five years of experience, Kerns has successfully closed more than $76 million in sales volume. Prior to joining Sperry Van Ness, Kerns served as director of investment sales with SR Commercial Real Estate Advisors and as an investment real estate specialist for Hansen Realty, Inc., both based in Chicago. Before entering the brokerage community, Kerns served as a vice president of Private Banking for The Northern Trust Company. While there, Kerns was responsible for managing a $50 million loan portfolio and more than $100 million in assets, split between high net worth individuals and privately held companies. Kerns has also served as a vice president for ABN AMRO Bank as well as LaSalle Bank. Kerns accomplished professional experience also extends in to the political arena, beginning with his experience as a legislative assistant to United States Senator Alan J. Dixon of the Senate Armed Service Committee. He went on to serve as a research assistant for The National War College in the Department of National Security Policy. Kerns has also served with The White House on the Presidential Commission on Defense Base Closure as a financial and defense strategy analyst. In this capacity, Kerns focus was on military installations recommended by the Secretary of Defense to President Bill Clinton for closure or realignment and testified before Congress on the potential benefits of privatization and commercial redevelopment of the real estate. As an active member of the industry Kerns is a member of: the Chicago Real Estate Council, the Chicago Association of Realtors, the National Association of Realtors, the International Council of Shopping Centers, and the Real Estate Investment Association. Kerns is also dedicated to assisting the community and works as a volunteer for the Chicago Public Library, the Childrens Memorial Hospital and the Jewish United Fund. Kerns earned a Master of Business Administration in Finance from Loyola University in Chicago and a bachelors degree in Political Science and International Relations from The American University in Washington, D.C.
